Valdivia, Chile to Host its First Full-Distance IRONMAN Triathlon in 2026

Monday 23 June 2025

IRONMAN and WORLD CENTRIC GROUP announced today that the city of Valdivia will become the first city in Chile to host a full-distance IRONMAN® triathlon. The inaugural IRONMAN Valdivia triathlon will make its debut on November 29, 2026, co-inciding with the IRONMAN 70.3 Valdivia triathlon, bringing the premier endurance event to the stunning southern region of Chile for the first time. General registration for the new event will open in the coming months.

Set against the stunning scenery of Valdivia’s rivers, lush forests, and charming city streets, the new IRONMAN Valdivia triathlon promises to be an unforgettable experience for athletes of all levels. The event will feature a 140.6-mile (226.2 km) course through some of one of the most beautiful and unique locations in Southern Chile.

"Valdivia has proven itself to be a truly compelling destination and following the success of the IRONMAN 70.3 Valdivia event, we know that this vibrant community is the perfect location to host Chile’s first full-distance IRONMAN.” said Joanna Jordan, Vice President – Managing Director of Latin America for The IRONMAN Group. “The exceptional reception the IRONMAN 70.3 event received reinforces our belief that
Valdivia will be a superb location to host a full-distance race and while showcasing what this region of Chile has to offer to a global audience.”

“We are thrilled to introduce the IRONMAN Valdivia race to athletes from around the world,” said Fernanda Castro, Race Director of the IRONMAN Valdivia triathlon and WORLD CENTRIC GROUP, who owns and operates the new event. “This marks a historic moment for our country. Chile has been hosting IRONMAN events since 2016, but this is the first time we will have a full-distance IRONMAN race. What makes it even more special is that it will take place on the same day and location as the IRONMAN 70.3 Valdivia triathlon, creating a truly iconic race weekend. Valdivia offers not only incredible natural beauty but also a fast and competitive course—an ideal setting for athletes to push their limits and aim for personal bests."

The 2026 IRONMAN Valdivia triathlon will offer athletes an unmatched experience racing through this unique and picturesque region of southern Chile. Athletes will begin their race with a 3.8 km (2.4-mile) swim in the calm and scenic waters of the Calle-Calle River, offering views of Valdivia’s iconic bridges and the surrounding greenery. Once out of the water, athletes will take on a 180.2 km (112-mile) bike course through the stunning Chilean countryside. The two-loop course will pass by serene rivers, majestic forests, and scenic mountain views. The course is designed to offer both flat stretches and some challenging hills, while also showcasing the beauty of the region. After transitioning to the run, athletes will complete a 42.2 km (26.2-mile) run along the picturesque riverbanks and through the heart of historic Valdivia. The flat and fast run course features a mix of urban streets between Av España, and the iconic Valdivia's Costanera, culminating in an unforgettable finish line experience.

Valdivia, located in the Chilean Lake District, offers athletes a truly unique experience. Known for its rich German heritage, picturesque rivers, and lush landscapes, Valdivia is the perfect backdrop for this world-class endurance race. Athletes will have the chance to immerse themselves in the region’s rich cultural history and natural beauty, making it a memorable race for both participants and spectators. Spectators will be treated to incredible views of the course, as the run and bike routes pass through the city’s most iconic landmarks, including the famous Valdivia River and the historical sites of the city. The atmosphere, vibrant crowds, and stunning views make this a memorable experience not only for the athletes but also for everyone cheering them on.

The 2026 IRONMAN Valdivia triathlon will offer age group qualifying slots for the 2027 IRONMAN World Championship® race in Kailua-Kona, Hawai`i.
