Matt Hanson (USA) came out of Lake Coeur d'Alene in eighth place, and looking at a manageable 1:36 deficit to the leaders heading out on the bike. Hanson made his way to the front of the race early and shared the lead with IRONMAN 70.3 world champions, Tim Reed (AUS) and Andy Potts (USA), as well as Christian Kemp (AUS) and Coeue d'Alene's own Derek Garcia (USA). Arthur Forissier from France and Michelle Flipo from Mexico captured the 8th annual XTERRA Switzerland Championship in the Vallee de Joux this afternoon. The win is the second in three years for Forissier on this course and the second in a row for Flipo. Lionel Sanders (CAN) came into the race as the man to beat and he lived up to all the pre-race expectations. Exiting the water only 2:40 down to the leaders was considered a win for the stealthy Canadian. Within 25 kms of the bike, Sanders was in the lead and steam rolled into T2 with a six-minute advantage on his closet challenger. Pavel Andreev (RUS) and Louise Fox (GBR) captured the inaugural XTERRA Finland Championship off-road triathlon race in Rauha this afternoon. Kevin Collington was at or near the front of the race throughout the entire swim and bike legs in Costa Rica for the inaugural IRONMAN 70.3 event. The first XTERRA Finland will have a small, but quality field. Olli Miettinen is the Finnish Cross triathlon Champion (It was on the same course) and will be the local athlete to watch.
