IRONMAN Announce New 70.3 Agadir Morocco

Tuesday 27 May 2025
IRONMAN® has today announced that Agadir has been named as the new host city for an IRONMAN® 70.3® triathlon event in Morocco.  On October 26, Agadir will hold the first edition of IRONMAN 70.3 Agadir triathlon, which will take place in the southern- most part of the country, known as ‘the pearl’ of Southern Morocco. Agadir is home to a magnificent coastline, and breathtaking ocean and scenic mountainous views. The climate is warm all year round ranging from 22°C  in January to highs of 35°C in the middle of summer.

As the second largest tourist city in Morocco after Marrakech, Agadir is rich in culture and oozes adventure. The city is famous for its delicious Moroccan cuisine, and vibrant energy combined with the calm & tranquility that comes with being a coastal destination.

The course, detailed further below, starts in the Atlantic Ocean, on the showstopping coastline of Agadir. The 90km bike loop winds through unforgettable roads at the foot of the renowned Atlas Moutain range, creating the perfect conditions for a spectacular ride. Athletes will then be treated with three-loop flat and fast 21.1 km run course alongside the Atlantic Ocean, and can expect it to be abuzz with spectators and local entertainment.

Soad El Yacoubi Race Director for IRONMAN 70.3 Agadir triathlon said: “We have had our sights set on Agadir for a while now, and everything finally fell into place to make the race happen. At the heart of Agadir is culture, adventure and hospitality, three things that make an incredible race destination. A city situated on the coastline with views that can’t compare; we truly believe this race will capture the heart of all of our athletes.”

Course Details:

Swim Course
The swim course consists of a single 1.9km loop in the beautiful bay of Agadir. The bay is protected by the natural curvature of the land, which reduces the impact of the waves creating a calm, clear, safe swimming environment. The water temperature remains consistently relatively mild, with typical temperatures in October ranging from 18°C - 22°C.

Bike Course
The bike course is composed of a 90km single loop, starting in downtown Agadir, before heading inland into the Berber hinterland. Athletes will then navigate between rolling hills and valleys, which will lead them to Taghazout, a captivating coastal town renowned for incredible surfing. This course requires good technique and concentration, with athletes being rewarded with powerful panoramic views. Elevation gain will be between 750-900m.

Run Course
A fast and flat 3 loop course, the run moves through the wide pedestrian promenade alongside the Atlantic Ocean, Marina and the beach. Athletes can expect plenty of spectators cheering them on to the red carpet, and local entertainment to bring them home.

IRONMAN 70.3 Agadir triathlon will take place this year in lieu of IRONMAN 70.3 Tangier.
