The Nasser Bin Hamad Triple Crown Organising Committee announced today that the third race in the Triple Crown series with a potential prize purse of $1 million will no longer include the Challenge Family race which was scheduled on the 20th November, 2015.
Due to issues regarding the road traffic safety permit for the race, Challenge Bahrain was cancelled and the Nasser Bin Hamad Triple Crown Organising Committee was obliged to postpone the last race of the Triple Crown series and look for a new partner to carry out the final stage.
His Highness Shaikh Nasser remains committed to delivering the race of a lifetime in Bahrain for athletes of all ages and abilities and to creating a spectator experience that captures all the excitement and emotion of this inspirational sport.
The Nasser Bin Hamad Triple Crown Organising Committee thanks Challenge Family for their continued support, but in light of the permit issues and in the interest of the athletes it was felt that a new event should be found to hold the final of the Triple Crown Series.
Therefore, the Triple Crown will partner with IRONMAN to include the IRONMAN® 70.3® Middle East Championship Bahrain on 5th December, 2016 as the finale for the 2015 Triple Crown series.
The announcement of the new race will have no effect on rules associated with winning the prize winning purse of $1 million.
Daniela Ryf of Switzerland won the first two events of the 2015 Triple Crown series in Dubai and Zell am See-Kaprun and has the opportunity to complete the Triple Crown with a win at the IRONMAN 70.3 Middle East Championship Bahrain.
The Nasser bin Hamad Triple Crown series was first announced by His Highness Shaikh Nasser on 8th December 2014. This year’s series comprises three worldclass races in Dubai, Zell am See-Kaprun and Bahrain. Any athlete who wins all three races will win $1 million – the highest potential payout in triathlon.
