In the 2025 IRONMAN 70.3 Cozumel race, Mexican athletes Rodrigo Gonzalez and Cecilia Perez secured commanding victories, fulfilling their favorite status in front of the enthusiastic local crowd. The race featured a competitive swim, a challenging flat and fast bike course known for potential winds, and a two-lap flat run through Cozumel's key sights. Gonzalez overcame a deficit on the run to surge past the leaders, while Perez also claimed a decisive win.
The swim started with a tightly packed group of athletes. On the Bike, American Justin Riele set a strong pace, establishing a significant lead by the time he reached T2. Then in the Run, Rodrigo Gonzalez, the pre-race favorite, demonstrated his strong running ability, quickly closing the gap on Riele and surging into the lead to win the race. Cecilia Perez, like her male counterpart, delivered a commanding performance to claim the women's victory.
