CHALLENGE Quebec Pro Preview

Friday 19 July 2024

The highly anticipated SAIL Challenge Cap Québec powered by Argon 18 will take place in Québec’s cultural heart of Québec City, featuring an impressive lineup of over 20 professional athletes from around the globe.

Among the men’s professional field is Jack Moody (NZL), winner of Challenge Taiwan and Challenge Gunsan-Saemangeum, who has already completed four Challenge Family races this year and currently leads the Challenge Family World Bonus. He will compete alongside local favourites Nicolas Gilbert and Brennen Smith from Canada, as well as other strong international professionals.

The professional women's field includes former Commonwealth Games champion, Jodie Stimpson (GBR), the 2021 Challenge Miami winner, who will compete alongside athletes such as Hannah Sakaluk and Angela Naeth from the USA. The latter boasts an extensive long-distance career. Valerie Barthelemy (BEL), Olympian and a renowned short-course racer, will also be participating, having recently secured her first middle-distance podium.

The SAIL Challenge Cap Québec powered by Argon 18 is poised to be a landmark event, attracting top athletes from all around the world. The course promises to showcase the best of the city and its surroundings. The event kicks off with a 1.9km swim in Bassin Louise, surrounded by yachts and the charming old-town Québec.

The bike course, a four-lap, 90km route, is historic in its own right, as it marks the first time the highway will be closed this long for an event. Athletes will experience an out-and-back ride along the St Lawrence River, featuring picturesque views of Île d'Orléans and the city.

Returning to T2, the run takes participants on a flat course through 400 years of history in a UNESCO World Heritage Site, followed by a scenic run along the Rivière Saint-Charles, offering breathtaking vistas of Île d'Orléans, the St Lawrence River, and its many boats. The race concludes at the Port of Québec Agora, an awe-inspiring location on the banks of the St Lawrence River, with a panoramic view of the iconic Château Frontenac.

Live updates and timing are available from the race start at 7:00am local time on Sunday 21 July at www.challenge-famiy.live. For further information, visit www.challenge-capquebec.com.
