Penticton To Host Its Final IRONMAN Canada Event

Tuesday 09 July 2024

IRONMAN announced today that it will celebrate the magic of the Okanagan one last time when the City of Penticton, British Columbia, Canada hosts its final edition of the iconic IRONMAN® Canada triathlon, before the historic event moves to its new location in Ottawa in 2025. Penticton, which first hosted the full-distance IRONMAN Canada triathlon from 1983 to 2012 and again beginning in 2022, will hold its final edition of the event on August 25, 2024. As announced earlier in the year, the IRONMAN® 70.3® Canada triathlon will take place in conjunction with the full-distance IRONMAN race for one year only in Penticton.

“We are grateful for the wonderful partners that we have in Penticton for hosting and helping to build the legacy of IRONMAN Canada triathlon into one of our longest-running and most popular events,” said Keats McGonigal, Senior Vice President and Managing Director of North America for The IRONMAN Group. “With over 30 years of history, all who have participated in one of the iconic IRONMAN Canada triathlons, either in Penticton or Whistler, can attest to what an amazing experience this captivating event has offered since it was first introduced in 1983. We cherish the memories that have been created and look forward to building on those with our athletes and amazing community of volunteers in Penticton this August as we celebrate the important role the city and its people have played in IRONMAN history.”

Penticton, British Columbia became the first IRONMAN event to take place in North America and only the third IRONMAN triathlon outside of Hawai`i (with the IRONMAN New Zealand race debuting in 1985) when it hosted the iconic event from 1983 to 2012. In 2013, Whistler stepped in as host of the event, moving the race from eastern British Columbia to the Coast Mountains north of Vancouver. In 2019, it was announced that the event would return to its original home in Penticton. Following the global pandemic, Penticton hosted the race in 2022 following its return from Whistler.

Penticton is now set to celebrate its long history and final edition of hosting the IRONMAN Canada triathlon, part of the VinFast IRONMAN North America Series, on August 25, 2024. In addition, an IRONMAN 70.3 Canada triathlon will take place in conjunction with the full-distance event in Penticton on August 25. Limited registration for both events are available by visiting www.ironman.com/im-canadaand www.ironman.com/im703-canada.

In 2025, Canada’s Capital city of Ottawa will take over as host for the iconic IRONMAN Canada brand, with the new event making its debut in front of Canada’s Parliament on Sunday, Aug. 3, 2025.
