New 70.3 Tulsa Oklahoma Joins IRONMAN Tulsa in 2023

Thursday 22 September 2022

IRONMAN announced today a new IRONMAN® 70.3® triathlon will be added in Tulsa, Okla. Providing for additional racing opportunities in the spring of 2023. The inaugural IRONMAN 70.3 Tulsa half-distance race will take place on Sunday, May 21 in conjunction with the full-distance Certified Piedmontese Beef IRONMAN Tulsa triathlon, part of the VinFast IRONMAN U.S. Series. General registration for 2023 IRONMAN 70.3 Tulsa is open now and can be accessed by visiting, www.ironman.com/im703-tulsa.

“The demand we have seen for IRONMAN 70.3 racing around North America has been astounding and we are delighted to add an IRONMAN 70.3 triathlon to compliment the popular full-distance IRONMAN event here in Tulsa,” said Eric Atnip, Regional Director for The IRONMAN Group. “This new event will offer an even more robust day of racing and create additional racing opportunities for athletes. Tulsa has proven itself to be both an exciting and popular destination for athletes and their support crews, so adding an IRONMAN 70.3 triathlon to one of our popular communities with great local partners is something that just makes sense.”

Situated on the Arkansas River between the Osage Hills and the foothills of the Ozark Mountains in northeast Oklahoma, Tulsa is the second-largest city in the state. Tulsa boasts a wide variety of attractions, including Gathering Place (the largest privately funded public park in the country), Philbrook and Gilcrease museums, the Tulsa Zoo, and the Oklahoma Aquarium. Visitors can also enjoy professional baseball and soccer at the downtown stadium, ONEOK Field. Tulsa is known as a barbeque town but also boasts James Beard award-winning seafood and internationally renowned craft beer. The city prides itself on offering big-city experiences in a completely different way: no huge crowds, no big attitudes, just plenty to do for you and your whole group.

“The addition of the IRONMAN 70.3 triathlon option this year will make our event even more enticing to both locals and out-of-towners who want to experience the Tulsa course,” said Renee McKenney, Senior Vice President of Tourism of Tulsa Regional Chamber and President of Tulsa Regional Tourism. “With the route showcasing Green Country from the serene Osage Hills to the bustling finish line in the heart of Tulsa, we are confident that athletes and spectators will have an experience they won’t forget.”

The IRONMAN 70.3 Tulsa triathlon will offer qualifying slots to the 2023 VinFast IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship taking place on August 26-27, 2023 in Lahti, Finland.
