Salem, Oregon's capital city and the Willamette Valley hosted the IRONMAN 70.3 Oregon triathlon on Sunday, July 10 where thousands of athletes, including professional and age-group athletes took to the region for the second edition of the event. The event saw Justin Metzler (USA) take the overall victory with a finishing time of 3:39:57. In the women’s professional race, it was Danielle Lewis (USA) who ran away from the rest of the women’s field taking top spot on the podium with a finishing time of 3:59:33.
Just under a minute behind Metzler, Jack Moody (GBR) generated an impressive performance to earn a second-place finish with an overall time of 3:40:38. Kyle Buckingham (ZAF) rounded out the podium in third with a time of 3:42:09. In the professional women’s race, it was three-time IRONMAN World Championship Mirinda Carfrae (AUS) taking home second place behind Lewis with an overall time of 4:05:26 while Oregon resident Heather Jackson (USA) finished in third with a time of 4:06:44.

The 2022 IRONMAN 70.3 Oregon triathlon saw 2,300 athletes take on the 70.3-mile journey throughout Oregon’s capital and its surrounding areas. Athletes ranging in age from 18 to 81 competed in the 2022 IRONMAN 70.3 Oregon. Athletes embarked on the race consisting of a 1.2-mile down river swim in the Willamette River, a 56-mile ride through Oregon’s wine country and 13.1-mile run featuring Minto Brown Island Park. The 2022 IRONMAN 70.3 Oregon was a dual qualifier offering qualifying slots to both 2022 Intermountain Healthcare IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship in St. George, Utah AND to 2023 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship in Lahti, Finland.
