IRONMAN Coeur d'Alene Returns to Idaho 2023

Friday 24 June 2022

The IRONMAN Group, announced today that the stunning city of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho will once again play host to a full-distance IRONMAN® triathlon on Sunday, June 26, 2023, as part of a unanimous vote in Tuesday’s City of Coeur d’Alene council meeting.

“We are so thrilled to see such an appetite for full distance triathlon racing in Coeur d’Alene,” said Tim Brosious, Northwest Regional Director for The IRONMAN Group. “With the longstanding history Coeur d’Alene has built within the triathlon community over the years, we know our athletes will be excited to once again race 140.6 miles across Northern Idaho's best terrain on offer.”

The 2023 IRONMAN Coeur d’Alene triathlon course will mirror characteristics of the half-distance IRONMAN® 70.3® triathlon. Athletes will begin with a 2.4-mile double-loop swim in the breathtaking Lake Coeur d’Alene. The 112-mile double-loop bike course will take athletes alongside Lake Coeur d’Alene and through a beautiful northern Idaho with sweeping mountain views before a transition at City Park. Athletes will cap off the race day with a multi-loop run course through McEuen Park to a vibrant finish downtown on Sherman Ave.

“We are super excited to host a full distance IRONMAN® race in Coeur d’Alene again next year! After talking to our IRONMAN team and athletes over the past year it has been clear that there is a strong desire for another full distance race here,” said Britt Bachtel-Browning, Vice President of North Idaho Sports Commission. “The past few years of the pandemic has produced a huge pent-up demand to race, and Coeur d’Alene just hits it out of the park in terms of where people want to race and bring their families to visit. This event really brings out the best in people. From the volunteers who give their hearts to support and encourage athletes, to the City personnel and IRONMAN staff who are dedicated to keeping everyone safe, to the joy of an IRONKIDS® race with hundreds of little ones beaming with pride after earning their medal, to the athletes of all shapes, sizes, ages, and backgrounds who push themselves to achieve something great. As an IRONMAN finisher myself, I can't tell you how many times when faced with a challenge, I remind myself ‘You did an IRONMAN triathlon! You can do anything!’ Needless to say, I am excited! I deeply cherish our relationship with IRONMAN, and I'm honored to have another year of IRONMAN and all that it brings!”

Coeur d’Alene and its neighboring areas are surrounded by dozens of lakes left behind by the glaciers from the ice age. There are more than 55 lakes within easy driving distance of Coeur d’Alene, but none more scenic and full of activities than Lake Coeur d’Alene itself. The perfect place to go on vacation and experience numerous outdoor activities, the area will continue to offer both participants and their families an amazing scenic race destination. With the spectacular North Idaho sunsets and moonrises, the plunge of an osprey after a fish, and the glowing lights of downtown Coeur d’Alene reflecting across Lake Coeur d’Alene waters at night, it is a magical location that will surely please.

General registration for the 2023 IRONMAN Coeur d’Alene triathlon will open on July 4, 2022, by visiting www.ironman.com/im-coeur-dalene. The 2023 IRONMAN Coeur d’Alene will offer qualifying slots to the 2023 IRONMAN World Championship® in Kailua-Kona, Hawai’i.
