IRONMAN Western Australia To Host Asia Pacific Championship

Tuesday 08 October 2024

Organisers of IRONMAN Western Australia have today announced that the event is set to host the IRONMAN Asia-Pacific Championship in 2025 and 2026.

The 2024 event returns to Busselton on Sunday 1 December, with athletes from across Australia and around the world to test themselves on the stunning course.

In 2025 and 2026 athletes across all age-groups will be racing for Asia-Pacific Championship titles, with the regional championship also an added incentive for the top professional athletes in the sport to head to Western Australia.

Athletes racing at IRONMAN Western Australia will take on a 3.8km swim, 180km ride and 42.2km run, with the event celebrating its 20th anniversary this year.

Carl Smith, The IRONMAN Group Regional Director, said that the team was excited to be hosting the IRONMAN Asia-Pacific Championship in Western Australia for two years from 2025.

“IRONMAN Western Australia is a bucket list race for our athletes, and we love bringing them and their supporters from around the world to the region each year, allowing them to experience an incredible race in an outstanding location,” said Smith. “By hosting the Asia-Pacific Championship in 2025 and 2026 athletes will be racing for a key regional championship, bringing additional prestige to an event that is already held in such high regard.”

Deputy Premier of Western Australia and Minister for Tourism, the Hon. Rita Saffioti MLA, said that IRONMAN Western Australia forms an integral part of WA's calendar of mass participation events.

"We know IRONMAN events attract outstanding athletes of all ages, and we anticipate an even greater hype ahead of these renowned Championships now that Western Australia has been named a host of the prestigious IRONMAN Asia-Pacific Championship in 2025 and 2026.

“Hosting large-scale mass participation events like IRONMAN drives a significant number of visitors to our state, which supports our regional communities by boosting the local economy and creating job opportunities.

"The coastal town of Busselton has so much to offer, including the iconic Busselton Jetty, stunning beaches, nearby wineries and a thriving local dining scene. We look forward to welcoming competitors and visitors from near and far to this spectacular part of WA to take part in this event."
