IRONMAN Returns To Idaho With 70.3 Boise

Tuesday 10 September 2024

IRONMAN, the global leader in long-distance triathlon, announced today that it will once again host an event in southwestern Idaho with the return of the IRONMAN® 70.3® Boise triathlon. Boise first hosted an IRONMAN 70.3 triathlon from 2008 to 2015, and the announcement of its return brings this fan favorite northwest venue back to the IRONMAN 70.3 racing circuit. The event is scheduled to take place on Saturday, July 26, 2025, with general registration opening on September 16, 2024, at www.ironman.com/im703-boise.

“We are thrilled to be back racing in Boise in 2025,” said Tim Brosious, Regional Director at The IRONMAN Group. “For years, Boise was a popular destination race that saw athletes come far and wide to experience the unique and stunning course. With many of the same course elements that existed in the original event, we believe the IRONMAN 70.3 Boise triathlon will once again be one of the most popular events on the circuit and attract a whole new generation to racing in this truly special northwest destination. We look forward to working with our partners at Visit Boise to create an unforgettable event that will excite both our athletes and the local community.”

“The proximity of outdoor recreation just minutes from downtown makes Boise an ideal location for this race,” said Carrie Westergard, executive director of Visit Boise. "The city’s wide variety of restaurants, attractions and retail options for visitors to enjoy off the course makes it even more of a draw. We are proud of Visit Boise’s dedicated team that works hard to attract and secure world-class events like the IRONMAN 70.3 that will bring significant economic impact to our area.”

"We are so excited to host IRONMAN 70.3 again after nearly ten years," said Boise Mayor Lauren McLean. "Boise is well known for our outdoor spaces and residents who love to recreate in our foothills and river. This event showcases all Boise has to offer and highlights our city as a location for major sporting competitions. We look forward to welcoming athletes from near and far as they take on this challenging triathlon in our beautiful City of Trees."

Nicknamed "The City of Trees" and situated on the Boise River in southwestern Idaho, Boise is the capital and largest city in the state. Framed by beautiful foothills, Boise offers endless outdoor recreation opportunities including 25 miles of tree-lined greenbelt trails along the river, sprawling public parks, scenic hiking trails, natural hot springs, rock climbing, ski resorts and river sports all within driving distance of downtown. Home to Boise State University located just south of downtown, the city offers a vibrant arts and culture scene, numerous dining and entertainment options and the Boise Airport is conveniently just three miles from the city center. Athletes can expect to see a vibrant community ready to host athletes who will fly through the streets like the mountain bluebird, Idaho’s state bird, that adorns the new logo.

About the course:
Surrounded by the Boise Mountains, the IRONMAN 70.3 Boise race will kick off in the pristine waters of Lucky Peak Reservoir, with a 1.2-mile swim starting and finishing in the easily accessible Barclay Bay area. Once out of the water, athletes will head to transition 1 located at the Barclay Bay Parking Area. Athletes will be greeted with a sweeping downhill ride upon exiting the Lucky Peak Reservoir area to start their 56-mile cycling journey through the region. Athletes can expect a rolling, scenic tour of rural Boise roads and neighborhood streets before ending their bike journey with a downtown finish at transition 2. The popular Boise River Greenbelt Trail will play host to the IRONMAN 70.3 Boise run course. The flat, two-loop, 13.1-mile course, will be packed with shade and spectators as athletes wind along the Boise River to complete their journey in downtown Boise.

The 2025 IRONMAN 70.3 Boise triathlon will offer qualifying slots to the 2026 VinFast IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship triathlon.
