The Scenic City, Chattanooga, Tenn. provided a stunning backdrop for more than 3,000 athletes taking on the 2023 IRONMAN® 70.3® Chattanooga triathlon on Sunday, May 21. The event also featured a women’s only professional race that saw Paula Findlay (CAN) crowned champion falling a dominate run performance finishing with an overall time of 4:09:44. Findlay distanced herself from the field exiting the bike course five minutes ahead of her nearest competition and never relinquished the lead throughout the run. Danielle Lewis (USA) followed in second, shuffling the lead multiple times during the run with third place finisher Jeanni Metzler (ZAF) but ultimately fought her way ahead to finish with a time of 4:15:02. Continuing her run of form following her victory at the Intermountain Health IRONMAN 70.3 North America Championship St. George two weeks ago, Metzler rounded out the podium in third place finishing with a time of 4:15:37.
The 2023 IRONMAN?70.3 Chattanooga triathlon saw more than 3,000 athletes start the race. Athletes kicked off their 70.3-mile journey with a 1.4-mile swim in the Tennessee River before embarking on the 56-mile bike course through northern Georgia and historic Chickamauga. The 13.1-mile run course took athletes through scenic downtown Chattanooga before finishing at Ross’s Landing along the Tennessee Riverfront. The event offered 30 age group qualifying slots, and 50 extra slots for women to the 2023 VinFast IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship taking place on August 26-27, 2023 in Lahti, Finland.
