Wednesday 18 December 2019

The IRONMAN Group, a Wanda Sports Group company (Nasdaq: WSG), along with Indonesia Sports & Events Management Company (ISM) announced today the IRONMAN® 70.3® Lombok triathlon which will debut on Saturday, July 4, 2020, on the West Coast of Lombok, Indonesia. General registration for the inaugural IRONMAN 70.3 Lombok, Indonesia will open today, Tuesday December 17, 2019, with early bird rates available on www.ironman.com/im703-lombok.

“We are thrilled to introduce IRONMAN 70.3 Lombok, Indonesia as the newest race in the Asia race calendar,” said Geoff Meyer, Managing Director of Asia for The IRONMAN Group. “This is yet another milestone for us as we continue to see an increase in the number of Asia athletes. Lombok, Indonesia not only offers a scenic and challenging course for athletes to race, but also a perfect post-race holiday destination for them and their loved ones. We can’t wait to see what this race has to offer!”

Renowned for its pristine beaches and untouched scenery, Lombok is an island in West Nusa Tenggara province, Indonesia, which forms part of the chain of the Lesser Sunda Islands. It also shares cultural heritage to its popular neighbouring island to the west, Bali. Getting to Lombok, Indonesia is becoming increasingly accessible with flight options from various locations.

“I am very proud to bring IRONMAN 70.3 to Lombok, Indonesia in 2020 and beyond,” said Arie Sukirno, Director of ISM. “We look forward to growing the sport while hosting athletes and their supporters from around the world. Not only will they be treated to the beautiful scenery but will also experience the world-famous Indonesian hospitality. We look forward to creating a great event experience that everyone can be proud of in Lombok.”

The venue of the IRONMAN 70.3 Lombok, Indonesia is concentrated in the village of Mangsit, only minutes north of the tourist town of Senggigi and a few kilometers away from the capital city of West Nusa Tenggara, Mataram. The village of Mangsit offers a quaint contained village of activities for facilities provided to the athletes and their families. All within walking distance, the official hotels are featured on the IRONMAN registration website page, offering value added stay packages for athletes and also extended stay packages for those who want to enjoy Lombok on an extended stay.

The 2020 IRONMAN 70.3 Lombok, Indonesia triathlon will debut with a course which runs from the village of Mangsit in West Lombok to the town of Praya in Central Lombok.

Beginning and ending at Holiday Resort Lombok, the swim portion will consist of a single-loop 1.9km (1.2-mile) in the immaculate turquoise Bali sea with stunning views of the mountains. Athletes will then embark on a single-loop 90.1km (56-mile) bike course that goes along Raya Sengigi Road towards the City of Mataram and offers picturesque views of the Lombok coastline and the dense nature surrounding the famous Mount Rinjani. Athletes will continue Southeast along the flatter roads before making a U-turn prior to Lombok International Airport.

To complete the 113km (70.3-mile) journey, athletes will transition to the two-loop 21.1km (13.1-mile) run course. Athletes will exit T2 at Holiday Resort Lombok and run south towards the area of Senggigi. Athletes will experience a winding course with surreal views overlooking the Bali sea. A U-turn will be made within Senggigi before athletes run back towards Holiday Resort Lombok to complete their first lap. Upon completion of the second lap, athletes will enter the resort ground and finish directly alongside the beach in the lush and tropical gardens of the resort.

IRONMAN Village at Verve Beach Club is the center of entertainment activities for participants and fans of the triathlon. It is nestled between the official hotels of the 2020 IRONMAN 70.3 Lombok, Indonesia. IRONMAN Village will also serve as the location of two concerts: July 3 features Lombok musicians and July 4 features the internationally acclaimed Indonesian band, Saharadja.

The 2020 IRONMAN 70.3 Lombok, Indonesia triathlon will offer 60 age-group qualifying slots to the 2020 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship taking place in Taupõ, New Zealand on November 28-29, 2020.
