The Olympic distance Triathlon and the Sprint Triathlon will be Sunday, April 24, Approximately 40 professional stars of the sport, including Cameron Dye and Alicia Kaye, the 2015 men’s and women’s winners of St. Anthony’s, have registered for this year.
The 2016 field includes the women who earned the top four fastest times in 2015. They are, respectively, Kaye, Magali Tisseyre, Heather Lendway and Carla Moreno. Kaye has repeatedly been named Athlete of the Year in the non-drafting category while consistently winning events in 2015 that included the Ironman 70.3 Boulder, Ironman 70.3 Calgary, TriRock Triathlon Philadelphia and New York City Triathlon.
Also vying the for 2016 women’s title is Tisseyre whose 2015 titles include a first place finish at the Ironman 70.3 Los Cabos and Ironman 70.3 Monterrey while placing 4th at the Ironman 70.3 World Championships and the International Triathlon in Beijing. Lendway placed 3rd at the 2016 Ironman 70.3 Pan American Championship and 4th at this year’s Ironman 70.3 Buenos Aires. In addition to winning the 2015 Club Med 2575 Championship, Moreno placed 10th at the 2015 City Bikes Ironman 70.3.
Among the men who will be trying to capture the 2016 crown are Dye, Tyler Butterfield and Russia’s Ivan Tutukin. Dye also finished St. Anthony’s first in 2010 and 2015 and took top honors at the 2015 Des Moines Triathlon and 2015 New York City Triathlon. Butterfield is a two-time Olympian in triathlon who competed in Athens in 2004 and London in 2012 and a three-time Commonwealth Games contender (2006 in cycling and 2002 and 2014 in triathlon). Tutukin finished 4th in the 2015 Russia Triathlon National Championships and 6th in the 2015 Burgas ETU Spring Triathlon European Cup.
These are just a few of the professionals registered for the 2016 St. Anthony’s Triathlon. The field of competitors traditionally includes world champions, past winners and Olympians who are coming from around the world and throughout the Tampa Bay area. The professional field represents a variety of distances from the sport including Ironman, the non-drafting Olympic distance and the ITU.
