Micha will start at Challenge Walchsee-Kaiserwinkl after a long race-break due to a knee injury – Tough field heads into middle-distance race in Austria. ”I’m really looking forward to be back into racing, I really can’t wait to start.” After a knee injury Michael Raelert took a long race-break to recover and to build up a good level of form again. "I have waited long to be ready for a comeback,” says the Rostockian, “now I’m really excited to start.”
Michael Raelert prepared well for the event on Sunday in his hometown Rostock and at Lake Chiemsee. He feels ready to show a good comeback on the distance where he was able to claim two titles both at the Ironman 70.3 European Championship and at the Ironman 70.3 World Championship. “I’m curious to see where I am at,” he says, “but I absolutely know that it is my first race after a long break. It’s a tough pro field and a challenging course, so it will be a real test.” Next to Michael Raelert at the start will line up Ironman Melbourne champion Dirk Bockel from Luxembourg, 2013’s Ironman 70.3 European champion Ritchie Nicholls (Great Britain), the two strong German Per Bittner and Markus Fachbach, Italian Massimo Cigana and Michael Weiss and Thomas Steger from Austria.
After the 1.9 km long swim in Lake Walchsee the participants head onto a two-loop bike course of 90 kilometers overall, which means a challenging task at the foot of the Kaiser mountains. Finally an up-and-down run course of four loops around Lake Walchsee awaits all athletes, before they cross the finish line. “The course is challenging, this makes me looking forward to racing even more."
