Danish athletes Camilla Pedersen and Henrik Hyldelund enjoyed home course advantage at KMD IRONMAN 70.3 Aarhus.
Pedersen in a league of her own
Camilla Pedersen dominated the women’s field as she prepares for her title defense at the IRONMAN European Championship in Frankfurt. Pedersen led the women’s pro race from the start to finish to record a 4:26:05 clocking. The 30-year-old's winning margin was an astonishing 16:52 over Evi Neuscheler (DEU). Pedersen was dominant in the water (27:11), bike (2:31:00) and run (1:23:28). Behind Pedersen there was a terrific battle between Neuscheler and Parys Edwards (GBR), with Neuscheler taking second in 4:42:56 and Edwards rounding out the podium with her 4:43:45 finish time.
Hyldelund sets tone on the bike
In the men’s race it was a closer affair, but not by a lot. Rasmus Petraeus (DEN) lead the field out of the water in 23:41. Last year's runner up at IRONMAN Copenhagen, Henrik Hyldelund (DEN) was next out of the water in 24:23. Hyldelund attacked early on the bike and eventually came off the bike nine minutes ahead of Petraeus, Hyldelund and Allan Steen Olesen as the race reached T2.
Hyldelund won in 3:59:03, Olesen (DEN) recorded a second place finish in 4:07:13, while Mads Vittrup (DEN) claimed third in 4:09:46.
