Will Royalty Reign at Syracuse 70.3

Saturday 21 June 2014
The Pro field Star-power at 70.3 Syracuse may be overshadowed this weekend due to actual Royalty racing in the ranks. Two princes from Bahrain Shaikhs Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa and Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa are leading a team in the age group competition in Jamesville on Sunday.

When the gun goes off on Jamesville beach at 7am as always expect the Aussies to take advantage of there natural talent in the water. Paul Ambrose, Sam Douglas,James Seear and John Polson should be the pod up front.

Out of T1 Uber bikers Andrew Yoder, Ben Collins Jordan Rapp will want to penetrate the pack on the single loop course. Onto the run and all bets are off, whoever produces their royal flush will be King for the day at Syracuse 70.3.

In the women’s race Heather Leiggi (2nd,2013) and Molly Roohi (3rd,2013) are back to try and improve on last years results. Leiggi is looking to also improve on her 12th place finish two weeks ago at 70.3 Eagleman after starting the season strong at 70.3 Puerto Rico finishing 4th.

Radka Vodickova is on the start list but according to her social media (twitter@radkavodickova) she is taking a mid-season break in Costa Rica. If Radka does indeed start on Sunday she would have to be the female favorite.

Beth Shutt now in her 3rd year as a pro has been solid on the 70.3 circuit and started this year with a 4th place at Ironman Los Cabos. Fellow American Lauren Goss is another name we keep seeing, after a successful ITU career Lauren is slowly making the step up to middle distance under the guidance of Dave Scott and sum what under the radar here.
