Shootout at High Noon in Boise

Friday 06 June 2014
When the gun goes off 12 mid-day at 70.3 Boise reputations once again will be on the line. The first casualty has already been claimed after race favorited Craig Alexander withdrew with a back issue. This then leaves the door open for the likes of Brent McMahon or Luke Bell to step in. Canadian McMahon won 70.3 Hawaii this past weekend and it will be interesting to see if he has any fire power left here in Idaho. Aussie Luke Bell also started in Hawaii but kept some of his power dry after multiple mechanical issues forced a DNF on the big Island.

Ben Hoffman comes in fresh after a slight break from racing early season. He will look to do better than the 4th place finish here last year. Josh Amberger is another athlete who raced this last weekend picking up a 3rd place finish at Escape from Alcatraz. Australian Christian Kemp will be in the mix along with Canadian Jeff Symonds, Kiwi Guy Crawford who announced on twitter “Excited for @Ironmantri Boise but just as excited to show @DanMacPherson Boise after hours!! #Pubcrawl”

Matt Lieto, Maik Twelsiek and Trevor Wurtele will no doubt want to hang with the pack in the race (and the Pub Crawl)

In the women’s event last years winner Liz Lyles is back to defend, but she will have to run down Meredith Kessler who will know doubt lead from the front as usual. Just as in the mens race, last weeks female winner from Hawaii Angela Naeth is lining up this week along with Melanie McQuaid having placed 3rd a week ago. Another girl looking to catch Kessler on the run will be Kate Bevilaqua having had a solid season down under and will want to keep the momentum going “up over”.
