All-Star Pro field set for 2014 Escape from Alcatraz

IMG Worldwide, the global sports, fashion and media company, announce that 2013 IRONMAN World Champion Mirinda Carfrae and two-time Olympic medalist Bevan Docherty will lead an elite pro field competing in the 2014 Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon, on Sunday, June 1. Nearly 30 of the world’s top professional triathletes are set to race in San Francisco including five-time Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon Champion Andy Potts, Olympian Greg Bennett, 2013 Escape from Alcatraz Champion Heather Jackson, Olympian Matt Reed, four-time Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon Champion Leanda Cave and many more.

“We have a highly competitive field including an IRONMAN World Champion, several Olympians and previous Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon Champions that will make for a thrilling finish,” said IMG Senior Vice President James Leitz. “This year, sports fans will enjoy an up-close look at the race when the Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon returns to broadcast television on CBS Sports Network. This special program will feature exclusive race footage, behind-the-scenes interviews with pros and more when it airs on June 22.”

More than 2,000 race participants from more than 40 countries will take over the streets and waters of San Francisco for this prestigious triathlon. Showcasing the beauty of San Francisco, triathletes will embark on a 1.5 mile swim from Alcatraz Island to the shoreline of Marina Green, an 18 mile hilly bike ride through Golden Gate Park and an eight mile trail run out to Baker Beach and up the infamous Sand Ladder. Fans will not want to miss this world class sporting event at the Marina Green where they can see the swim start and finish, the athlete transition areas and finish line. Spectators also are invited to enjoy the free Fitness Festival & Expo throughout the weekend featuring dozens of vendors, product demonstrations, refreshments and more.
