IRONMAN 70.3 Ballarat offers athletes a chance to create their own legacy in Victoria’s thriving event city. With an exciting new course, great destination, close proximity to Melbourne and a unique grassroots flavour, IRONMAN 70.3 Ballarat is going to be an amazing local event not to be missed.
Athletes will commemorate our fallen heroes of the past as they pass the iconic War Memorials throughout the 1.9km swim, 90km cycle, 21.1km run course. The 1.9km swimming leg takes in the 1956 Olympic rowing course of Lake Wendouree, which this year will also host the World Masters Rowing Regatta in October. The 2 lap, 90km bike course is steeped in history, encompassing the majestic Avenue of Honour and Arch of Victory. The final leg of IRONMAN 70.3 Ballarat is a 2 lap, 21km run taking in the Steve Moneghetti Track, named after Ballarat’s famous marathon Olympian.
Ballarat is the gateway to exploring Western Victoria, whilst offering the warmth and ease of a regional city. Just one hour’s drive to bustling Melbourne, 30 minutes by car to the spa country of Daylesford and less than two hours’ drive to the enticing peaks of the Grampians; Ballarat is the perfect base to discover Victoria. The city hums with award-winning restaurants, a diverse retail sector, quirky cafes and stylish wine bars and breweries, with new additions to the burgeoning foodie scene constantly being established.
There are 30 qualifying slots to the 2015 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship in Zell am See-Kaprun, SalzburgerLand, Austria.
