Romain Guillaume has won the 2014 Lanzarote Volcano Triathlon, an Olympic Distance race. With a time of 01:58:15, Romain was more than two minutes faster than Bert Jammaer and Rayco Marrero. It is the fifth victory of the season for the Uplace-BMC Pro Triathlon Team.
After a solid swim put him in fourth place, Romain made his move after 5k on the bike. He built up a lead of almost two minutes heading into T2. Romain finished off with a strong run to take the win.
Even though today’s race was part of his preparation for his main goal, the Ironman Lanzarote on May 17, Romain was happy with his victory: “This is a confidence booster. I have just completed a two-week block with 5 hours of training a day. So I wasn’t sure how I would feel, especially because I have just started working with Yves Cordier. He has me focusing more on volume training, which is a change for me. But I felt good all day. I pushed on the bike and I was able to run well after that. I still have work to do, but this was definitely a good training race. Of course, now it all has to come together in the Ironman Lanzarote.”
