Superheroes at the Ready for IRONMAN UK Bolton

Friday 02 July 2021

Dubbed one of the UK's friendliest towns, Bolton is the home of England's only full-distance IRONMAN. This race is known for its iconic spectator support, incredible North West English bike course scenery, and impressive finish line in the heart of the town centre.

The two-loop 2.4 mile (3.8 km) swim course takes place at Pennington Flash Country Park, opened in 1981. The swim course has a triangle layout and athletes will head out before turning left twice and making their way back to the start.

The three-loop 112 mile (180.2 km) bike course runs in an anti-clockwise direction. Athletes will travel from Pennington Flash to Bolton for the first few miles, before taking on the three-loop bike course. The course continues through the northern countryside, past Black Dog Pub before reaching the famous Sheephouse Lane.

The four-loop 26.2 mile (42.2 km) run course laps around Bolton town centre before ascending through the scenic Queen’s Park to Chorley New Road. Athletes will then pass numerous spectator hotspots before finishing at Victoria Square.

Professionals compete for $100,000 US prize purse plus 2 MPRO/ 2 FPRO Kona Slots.
