IRONMAN European Championship Frankfurt preview

Thursday 03 July 2014
A big and historical city with a lot of charm - Frankfurt is the host of the IRONMAN European Championship. In Frankfurt you can see a lot of historical places like Römer, Paulskirche (Church), Frankfurt Zoological Garden, Goethe Museum, the old Opera House, several museums and Alt Sachsenhausen.

Athletes start with a 3.8km swim course in the quiet waters of the Langener Waldsee. The two loop course has a short run between the laps. The water temperature is between 22°C and 24°C. The two loop bike course guides the athletes through the middle of Frankfurt. The course, which is closed for traffic, is hilly and challenging. Thousands of spectators are cheering the athletes on the 180km bike course. The 42.195km long and flat run course consists of four fast laps, which allow the athlete to reach marathon-times. The race will be surrounded by thousands of spectators along the coast promenade next to the river.

There are 100 age group qualifying slots for the IRONMAN World Championship in Kailua-Kona, HI.
