Brazil's Igor Amorelli held the home field advantage at IRONMAN 70.3 Florianopolis on Sunday. In his usual fashion, Amorelli did much of the damage with his potent swim and bike combination. Out of T2, he enjoyed a five-minute advantage on his closet rival. Tim O'Donnell (USA) made his 2018 season debut with the fastest run of the day, but the gap was just too great to catch Amorelli.
Pamella Oliveira's (BRA) wire-to-wire win wasn't quite the cake walk it appeared to be. Her compatriot, Bruna Mahan (BRA), was within two minutes of Oliveira after 90 kilometers on the bike. Mahan made a heroic attempt on the run to hunt the leader down but came up 11 seconds short of her target. Oliveira celebrated the hard-fought win after stopping the clock at 4:23:03.
