Challenge Family back in the USA with Challenge Daytona

Wednesday 13 December 2017
CHALLENGE FAMILY, Case Imagine and Daytona International Speedway today announced the launch of CHALLENGE DAYTONA . The international professional middle-distance triathlon and accompanying triathlon festival will take place at the iconic Daytona International Speedway on December 8th and 9th, 2018.

The press conference was led by CEO of CHALLENGE FAMILY , Zibi Szlufcik, who announced the middle-distance triathlon race to members of the media inside the “World Center of Racing.”

He said: “Our aim has always been simple: to create a worldwide series of high-quality, fair and fun triathlon races, which offer an exceptional experience for all involved. Our decision to launch CHALLENGE DAYTONA follows thousands of requests from professional and age-group athletes to have a US CHALLENGE FAMILY event in our portfolio.

“Due to the well-documented history that surrounds CHALLENGE FAMILY in North America, we would only return with a strong and unique race concept that is unlike any other in the world. Daytona International Speedway holds an unrivalled opportunity for a US-based middle-distance race. This, together with the exciting side events taking place during the weekend, will target all triathletes and spectators and position CHALLENGE FAMILY as a truly worldwide lifestyle brand.”

The Daytona International Speedway will be the centre of activity for both the
middle-distance race as well as the unique side events, which include:

● Pit-stop challenge
● Short-distance triathlon
● Corporate race
● 5k run/walk
● Relay triathlon

Lake Lloyd, inside the venue, will provide an unmatched spectator experience. Athletes will complete one lap in the lake.

The flat and fast bike leg will partly take place around the 3.56-mile circuit before leading triathletes outside the famed speedway.

After transitioning in the race venue, athletes tackle the run course, which has been designed with spectators in mind. The atmosphere is sure to energise the athletes as they complete four loops of the course before reaching the red carpet and cross the famed start/finish line.

Commenting at the press conference, Carlos Eduardo Arruda, CEO of Case Imagine said: “Our vision of the race is to not only create a world-class triathlon event for triathletes of all abilities, but to create a festival in every sense of the word. Following the racing, our team will throw a sensational CHALLENGE FAMILY- style festival complete with pasta party and an extraordinary awards ceremony.”

CHALLENGE DAYTONA , for many, will be the final race of the season and an official qualifier race for THE CHAMPIONSHIP, which has an incredible 150,000 euro prize purse.

“We look forward to hosting CHALLENGE DAYTONA and adding a new event to an already busy track calendar,” Daytona International Speedway President Chip Wile said. “Daytona International Speedway is going to provide a high-energy atmosphere for triathletes who will be competing at this iconic motorsports facility.”

Registration to enter CHALLENGE DAYTONA opens on the 14th December 2017.

Beals, Blatchford win IRONMAN Mont Tremblant

Beals, Blatchford win IRONMAN Mont Tremblant

Monday 20 Aug 2018 [Triathlon News]

Antoine Jolicoeur Desroches (CAN), a local favorite in the Mont Tremblant area pleased his fan base from the get-go with a two and half minute lead coming out of the water. He stayed off the front for the opening km's of the bike, but forfeited the lead to a hard charging Cody Beals (CAN) at 55 km. Beals, making his debut at IRONMAN racing, was in uncharted waters once the bike went beyond 90 km. The multiple IRONMAN 70.3 winner put his head down and waited for the Sanders train to make its appe more

Monday 20 Aug 2018 [Triathlon News]

Corinne Abraham nailed a personal best at IRONMAN Kalmar thanks to a brilliant performance just a few weeks out of the IRONMAN World Championship in Kona. The weather conditions were great when her compatriot Kimberley Morrison and Annie Thoren from Sweden opened up a fast race early in the water. When they exited the water after a little more than 52 minutes, the hunt was on. more

Cyril Viennot wins IRONMAN Copenhagen

Cyril Viennot wins IRONMAN Copenhagen

Monday 20 Aug 2018 [Triathlon News]

It was an exciting 2018 edition of the KMD IRONMAN Copenhagen. The conditions in the morning were perfect, the lagoon at Amager Strandpark was crowded and perfectly prepared for over 3,000 athletes. From the beginning, all eyes were on the British pro Tim Don who suffered from a fractured cervical spine only a few days before racing the IRONMAN World Championship last year. He made his way back incredibly fast, aiming for the Kona slot here in Copenhagen. He made it out of the water third (45:56 more

Smales, Pallant win 70.3 Dun Laoghaire

Monday 20 Aug 2018 [Triathlon News]

Two British hopefuls enjoyed a super final shakedown ahead of the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship with victories on a challenging course in Ireland. Last year’s world championship runner-up Emma Pallant and Elliot Smales claimed victories at IRONMAN 70.3 Dun Laoghaire on a new course that tested all with the ride in the famed Wicklow Mountains National Park. Pallant was overtaken on the climbs by teak-tough 40-something Tine Deckers with the Belgian taking a 1:45 buffer on to the run. The young more

Reed, McKenzie win 70.3 Bintan

Monday 20 Aug 2018 [Triathlon News]

While the 2016 IRONMAN 70.3 world champion Tim Reed is not venturing to the 2018 edition in South Africa, the likable Australia is showing signs of returning to his irrepressible best when he ran his way to victory at IRONMAN 70.3 Bintan. Reed bided his time as he and defending champion Mike Phillips shared the pace in the water and on the 90km ride. The Australian found his running legs with his 1:18 effort enough to ensure an emphatic six-minute win on the island resort. more
