Frodeno back to bib 1 at 70.3 Barcelona

Friday 19 May 2017
Known for its beautiful location at the "Costa del Maresme" and its distinctive lighthouse landmark, Calella is renowned as a tourism and sport hotspot. A friendly city of 19,000 situated 50 km from Catalonia's economic and political center of Barcelona, Calella has quickly become one of Europe's up-and-coming triathlon hotspots.

The field of 2,500-plus athletes will enjoy a one-loop swim in the Mediterranean Sea that starts and finishes on the beach of Calella. The 90 km bike heads inland on closed roads before returning to the transition area on the beach. The two-loop run heads along the coast to a turnaround at Pineda.

This race offers 30 qualifying slots available for the 2016 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship.

Professionals compete for P-750 points and $25,000 prize purse.

Matthew, Jackson win at 70.3 Chattanooga

Matthew, Jackson win at 70.3 Chattanooga

Tuesday 23 May 2017 [Triathlon News]

Thunderstorms threatened in Chattanooga Sunday, but the weather held to allow the athletes to hit the course unencumbered. Newbie Antoine Jolicoeur Desroches (CAN) took the race to his competitors early with a big swim gap and turned it into a huge lead off of the bike with a solo effort off the front. It was all for naught though as Matt Russell was able to pull that gap back in dramatic fashion with just two miles to go. Adam Otstot crossed second and Antoine held on for third. more

Frommhold, Philipp win at 70.3 St. Polten

Frommhold, Philipp win at 70.3 St. Polten

Tuesday 23 May 2017 [Triathlon News]

Nils Frommhold and Laura Philipp crossed the finish line with huge smiles, despite the poor weather at IRONMAN 70.3 St. Poelten. Frommhold was the first of three German men on the pro podium, and Philipp dominated the race with a 10-minute lead. In the men’s race, things unfolded as expected. Andreas Boecherer, Frommhold and Maurice Clavel were among the fastest guys in the water and started battling out each other early on the bike. The three athletes, who all live in the same area in the South more

Frodeno, Pallant win at 70.3 Barcelona

Frodeno, Pallant win at 70.3 Barcelona

Tuesday 23 May 2017 [Triathlon News]

It wasn’t really a question for the crowd at the IRONMAN 70.3 Barcelona whether Jan Frodeno, the two-time IRONMAN world champ and 2008 Olympic champion would take the win. But this was not an easy win to take for Frodeno, because the race was tough—thanks to his training buddy Nick Kastelein (AUS), who pushed really hard in each discipline, and Bertrand Billard from France who hammered early on the bike. more

Aernouts, Charles win at Ironman Lanzarote

Aernouts, Charles win at Ironman Lanzarote

Monday 22 May 2017 [Triathlon News]

IRONMAN Lanzarote is always a race of suffering. Three factors made the pro field go hard at the 26th edition of the race. On the one hand, the sun brought with it extremely tough conditions for all of the 1600 athletes. On the other hand, Bart Aernouts (BEL) in the men’s competition and Lucy Charles (GBR) in women’s pushed the top pros to their limits. more

Frodeno, focussed on nailing Kona

Frodeno, focussed on nailing Kona

Monday 22 May 2017 [Triathlon News]

With last Sunday’s win at Ironman 70.3 Barcelona, Jan Frodeno has turned a corner in his training calendar to defend his Ironman World Championship title for a second time. He now has only half a year left until that second Saturday in October. It has been four years since Frodeno entered the realm of Ironman and three years since he claimed the distinction of being the first man to have won an Olympic gold medal and world championships in Ironman 70.3 and Ironman. He then went on to win in Kona more
