A record breaking day for Sam Laidlow going wire to wire in first place with an overall winning time 8:03:40 breaking the old course record by 20 minutes. Liadlow’s day started fast with a 46:25 swim split before cycling over the Island’s notorious mountain course with a 4:27:52. With a 10+ minute lead out of T2 Liadlow looked comfortable on his 2:44:14 Marathon.
Second place finisher Patrick Lange had a blistering 2:33:43 run coming from 7 place and almost 20 minutes back at T2 to claim 2nd and his 2026 Kona slot. 3rd place Jordi Montraveta also had to battle forward from T2 coming from 5th to the podium and also his Kona Slot.
Having won here twice before Lucy Charles Barclay knew what she had to do here to have a good day, as a star swimmer she did not disappoint putting in a swim course effort at 47:02. Emulating Laidlow on the bike and run Charles Barclay extended her lead over the day to come home 26 minutes ahead of the chasing field.
Second place Nina Derron stayed strong all day and secured second and a slot to Kona. Nikita Paskiewiez had a yoyo battle all day eventually taking the third podium and Kona place.
