The SunSmart IRONMAN 70.3 Busselton event, formally the WA Long Course Triathlon Championships, found a new home in Busselton in 2002 after 17 years on Rottnest Island and a year at Margaret River. Over time the event has grown in stature and number of participants each year. The Media profile of the event continues to expand annually with the event broadcast national and strong media partnerships facilitating significant exposure both locally, nationally and internationally.
SunSmart IRONMAN 70.3 Busselton is one of the largest events of its type in Australia and the Asia Pacific region. Many spectators line the foreshore of Busselton to cheer on the athletes over the 1.9km swim in the pristine waters of Geographe Bay, 90.1km flat and fast bike leg thru the Tuart Forest and a 21.1km run along the foreshore of Busselton.
There are 30 qualifying slots to the 2019 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship in Nice, France.
