Andrew Starykowicz (USA) put his foot on the gas and never let up for 56 miles in the Lone Star State on Sunday. The American was rewarded with more than a seven-minute advantage heading into T2, and was a mile up the road on the run before the next competitors arrived in transition. Starykowicz's run-and-gun style of building up a huge advantage on the bike and holding on for the run has had mixed results. But Starykowicz delivered a solid run, and was never under any real threat on his way to the finish line.
The ageless Dede Griesbauer (USA) hit the bike dismount line carrying a three minute advantage on the field, while Jeanni Seymour (ZAF) followed into transition with a three and a half minute deficit. But Seymour charged into the lead at the three mile marker. The South African clocked the fastest run of the day to record her first IRONMAN 70.3 win of the 2019 season.
