Andrew Starykowicz (USA) wasted no time in putting his stamp on the race once the competition hit the bike. Exiting the water within 10 seconds of the leader, Starykowicz placed himself in an excellent position to control the race off the front. Forging his way into the lead in the early miles of the bike, Starykowicz started to leave vapor trails out on the Tennessee roadways resulting in the American running into transition with a seven-minute lead on his closest rival. With the sizeable gap between the leader and the remainder of the field, Starykowicz laid down a respectable run that watched him take the win a 49 second winning margin.
The women's race was highlighted by a terrific battle between Meredith Kessler (USA) and Heather Jackson (USA). The pair race side-by-side for much of the bike and the run until Jackson was able to successfully shake off Kessler for good at 10 miles into the run to claim the victory.
